9. At-Tawbah Page 194اِنْفِرُوْاGo forthخِفَافًاlightوَّ ثِقَالًاor heavyوَّ جَاهِدُوْاand striveبِاَمْوَالِكُمْwith your wealthوَ اَنْفُسِكُمْand your livesفِیْinسَبِیْلِ(the) wayاللّٰهِ ؕ(of) AllahذٰلِكُمْThatخَیْرٌ(is) betterلَّكُمْfor youاِنْifكُنْتُمْyouتَعْلَمُوْنَ know
(9:41) Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah. That is better for you, if you only knew.
لَوْIfكَانَit had beenعَرَضًاa gainقَرِیْبًاnearوَّ سَفَرًاand a journeyقَاصِدًاeasyلَّاتَّبَعُوْكَsurely they (would) have followed youوَ لٰكِنْۢbutبَعُدَتْwas longعَلَیْهِمُfor themالشُّقَّةُ ؕthe distanceوَ سَیَحْلِفُوْنَAnd they will swearبِاللّٰهِby AllahلَوِIfاسْتَطَعْنَاwe were ableلَخَرَجْنَاcertainly we (would) have come forthمَعَكُمْ ۚwith youیُهْلِكُوْنَThey destroyاَنْفُسَهُمْ ۚtheir own selvesوَ اللّٰهُand Allahیَعْلَمُknowsاِنَّهُمْ(that) indeed theyلَكٰذِبُوْنَ۠(are) surely liars
(9:42) Had it been an easy gain and a moderate trip, the hypocrites would have followed you, but distant to them was the journey. And they will swear by Allah, "If we were able, we would have gone forth with you," destroying themselves [through false oaths], and Allah knows that indeed they are liars.
عَفَا(May) Allah forgiveاللّٰهُ(May) Allah forgiveعَنْكَ ۚyouلِمَWhy (did)اَذِنْتَyou grant leaveلَهُمْto themحَتّٰیuntilیَتَبَیَّنَ(became) evidentلَكَto youالَّذِیْنَthose whoصَدَقُوْاwere truthfulوَ تَعْلَمَand you knewالْكٰذِبِیْنَ the liars
(9:43) May Allah pardon you, [O Muhammad]; why did you give them permission [to remain behind]? [You should not have] until it was evident to you who were truthful and you knew [who were] the liars.
لَا(Would) notیَسْتَاْذِنُكَask your permissionالَّذِیْنَthose whoیُؤْمِنُوْنَbelieveبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ الْیَوْمِand the Dayالْاٰخِرِthe Lastاَنْthatیُّجَاهِدُوْاthey striveبِاَمْوَالِهِمْwith their wealthوَ اَنْفُسِهِمْ ؕand their livesوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِیْمٌۢ(is) All-Knowerبِالْمُتَّقِیْنَ of the righteous
(9:44) Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day would not ask permission of you to be excused from striving with their wealth and their lives. And Allah is Knowing of those who fear Him.
اِنَّمَاOnlyیَسْتَاْذِنُكَask your leaveالَّذِیْنَthose whoلَا(do) notیُؤْمِنُوْنَbelieveبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ الْیَوْمِand the Dayالْاٰخِرِthe Lastوَ ارْتَابَتْand (are in) doubtsقُلُوْبُهُمْtheir heartsفَهُمْso theyفِیْinرَیْبِهِمْtheir doubtsیَتَرَدَّدُوْنَ they waver
(9:45) Only those would ask permission of you who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts have doubted, and they, in their doubt, are hesitating.
وَ لَوْAnd ifاَرَادُواthey had wishedالْخُرُوْجَ(to) go forthلَاَعَدُّوْاsurely they (would) have preparedلَهٗfor itعُدَّةً(some) preparationوَّ لٰكِنْButكَرِهَAllah dislikedاللّٰهُAllah dislikedانْۢبِعَاثَهُمْtheir being sentفَثَبَّطَهُمْso He made them lag behindوَ قِیْلَand it was saidاقْعُدُوْاSitمَعَwithالْقٰعِدِیْنَ those who sit
(9:46) And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain."
لَوْIfخَرَجُوْاthey (had) gone forthفِیْكُمْwith youمَّاnotزَادُوْكُمْthey (would) have increased youاِلَّاexceptخَبَالًا(in) confusionوَّ لَاۡاَوْضَعُوْاand would have been activeخِلٰلَكُمْin your midstیَبْغُوْنَكُمُseeking (for) youالْفِتْنَةَ ۚdissensionوَ فِیْكُمْAnd among you (are some)سَمّٰعُوْنَwho would have listenedلَهُمْ ؕto themوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِیْمٌۢ(is) All-Knowerبِالظّٰلِمِیْنَ of the wrongdoers
(9:47) Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
9. At-Tawbah Page 195لَقَدِVerilyابْتَغَوُاthey had soughtالْفِتْنَةَdissensionمِنْbeforeقَبْلُbeforeوَ قَلَّبُوْاand had upsetلَكَfor youالْاُمُوْرَthe mattersحَتّٰیuntilجَآءَcameالْحَقُّthe truthوَ ظَهَرَand became manifestاَمْرُ(the) Order of Allahاللّٰهِ(the) Order of Allahوَ هُمْwhile theyكٰرِهُوْنَ disliked (it)
(9:48) They had already desired dissension before and had upset matters for you until the truth came and the ordinance of Allah appeared, while they were averse.
وَ مِنْهُمْAnd among themمَّنْ(is he) whoیَّقُوْلُsaysائْذَنْGrant me leaveلِّیْGrant me leaveوَ لَاand (do) notتَفْتِنِّیْ ؕput me to trialاَلَاSurelyفِیinالْفِتْنَةِthe trialسَقَطُوْا ؕthey have fallenوَ اِنَّAnd indeedجَهَنَّمَHellلَمُحِیْطَةٌۢ(will) surely surroundبِالْكٰفِرِیْنَ the disbelievers
(9:49) And among them is he who says, "Permit me [to remain at home] and do not put me to trial." Unquestionably, into trial they have fallen. And indeed, Hell will encompass the disbelievers.
اِنْIfتُصِبْكَbefalls youحَسَنَةٌgoodتَسُؤْهُمْ ۚit distresses themوَ اِنْbut ifتُصِبْكَbefalls youمُصِیْبَةٌa calamityیَّقُوْلُوْاthey sayقَدْVerilyاَخَذْنَاۤwe tookاَمْرَنَاour matterمِنْbeforeقَبْلُbeforeوَ یَتَوَلَّوْاAnd they turn awayوَّ هُمْwhile theyفَرِحُوْنَ (are) rejoicing
(9:50) If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before," and turn away while they are rejoicing.
قُلْSayلَّنْNeverیُّصِیْبَنَاۤwill befall usاِلَّاexceptمَاwhatكَتَبَAllah has decreedاللّٰهُAllah has decreedلَنَا ۚfor usهُوَHeمَوْلٰىنَا ۚ(is) our Protectorوَ عَلَیAnd onاللّٰهِAllahفَلْیَتَوَكَّلِlet put (their) trustالْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ The believers
(9:51) Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely.
قُلْSayهَلْDoتَرَبَّصُوْنَyou awaitبِنَاۤfor usاِلَّاۤexceptاِحْدَیoneالْحُسْنَیَیْنِ ؕ(of) the two best (things)وَ نَحْنُwhile weنَتَرَبَّصُ[we] awaitبِكُمْfor youاَنْthatیُّصِیْبَكُمُAllah will afflict youاللّٰهُAllah will afflict youبِعَذَابٍwith a punishmentمِّنْfromعِنْدِهٖۤ[near] Himاَوْorبِاَیْدِیْنَا ۖؗby our handsفَتَرَبَّصُوْۤاSo waitاِنَّاindeed, weمَعَكُمْwith youمُّتَرَبِّصُوْنَ (are) waiting
(9:52) Say, "Do you await for us except one of the two best things while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands? So wait; indeed we, along with you, are waiting."
قُلْSayاَنْفِقُوْاSpendطَوْعًاwillinglyاَوْorكَرْهًاunwillinglyلَّنْneverیُّتَقَبَّلَwill be acceptedمِنْكُمْ ؕfrom youاِنَّكُمْIndeed youكُنْتُمْ[you] areقَوْمًاa peopleفٰسِقِیْنَ defiantly disobedient
(9:53) Say, "Spend willingly or unwillingly; never will it be accepted from you. Indeed, you have been a defiantly disobedient people."
وَ مَاAnd notمَنَعَهُمْprevents themاَنْthatتُقْبَلَis acceptedمِنْهُمْfrom themنَفَقٰتُهُمْtheir contributionsاِلَّاۤexceptاَنَّهُمْthat theyكَفَرُوْاdisbelieveبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ بِرَسُوْلِهٖand in His Messengerوَ لَاand notیَاْتُوْنَthey comeالصَّلٰوةَ(to) the prayerاِلَّاexceptوَ هُمْwhile theyكُسَالٰی(are) lazyوَ لَاand notیُنْفِقُوْنَthey spendاِلَّاexceptوَ هُمْwhile theyكٰرِهُوْنَ (are) unwilling
(9:54) And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling.
9. At-Tawbah Page 196فَلَاSo (let) notتُعْجِبْكَimpress youاَمْوَالُهُمْtheir wealthوَ لَاۤand notاَوْلَادُهُمْ ؕtheir childrenاِنَّمَاOnlyیُرِیْدُAllah intendsاللّٰهُAllah intendsلِیُعَذِّبَهُمْto punish themبِهَاwith itفِیinالْحَیٰوةِthe lifeالدُّنْیَا(of) the worldوَ تَزْهَقَand should departاَنْفُسُهُمْtheir soulsوَ هُمْwhile theyكٰفِرُوْنَ (are) disbelievers
(9:55) So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.
وَ یَحْلِفُوْنَAnd they swearبِاللّٰهِby Allahاِنَّهُمْindeed theyلَمِنْكُمْ ؕsurely (are) of youوَ مَاwhile notهُمْtheyمِّنْكُمْ(are) of youوَ لٰكِنَّهُمْbut theyقَوْمٌ(are) a peopleیَّفْرَقُوْنَ (who) are afraid
(9:56) And they swear by Allah that they are from among you while they are not from among you; but they are a people who are afraid.
لَوْIfیَجِدُوْنَthey could findمَلْجَاًa refugeاَوْorمَغٰرٰتٍcavesاَوْorمُدَّخَلًاa place to enterلَّوَلَّوْاsurely they would turnاِلَیْهِto itوَ هُمْand theyیَجْمَحُوْنَ run wild
(9:57) If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter [and hide], they would turn to it while they run heedlessly.
وَ مِنْهُمْAnd among themمَّنْ(is he) whoیَّلْمِزُكَcriticizes youفِیconcerningالصَّدَقٰتِ ۚthe charitiesفَاِنْThen ifاُعْطُوْاthey are givenمِنْهَاfrom itرَضُوْاthey are pleasedوَ اِنْbut ifلَّمْnotیُعْطَوْاthey are givenمِنْهَاۤfrom itاِذَاthenهُمْtheyیَسْخَطُوْنَ (are) enraged
(9:58) And among them are some who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry.
وَ لَوْAnd ifاَنَّهُمْ[that] theyرَضُوْا(were) satisfiedمَاۤ(with) whatاٰتٰىهُمُAllah gave themاللّٰهُAllah gave themوَ رَسُوْلُهٗ ۙand His Messengerوَ قَالُوْاand saidحَسْبُنَاSufficient for usاللّٰهُ(is) AllahسَیُؤْتِیْنَاAllah will give usاللّٰهُAllah will give usمِنْofفَضْلِهٖHis Bountyوَ رَسُوْلُهٗۤ ۙand His MessengerاِنَّاۤIndeed, weاِلَیtoاللّٰهِAllahرٰغِبُوْنَ۠turn our hopes
(9:59) If only they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger gave them and said, "Sufficient for us is Allah; Allah will give us of His bounty, and [so will] His Messenger; indeed, we are desirous toward Allah," [it would have been better for them].
اِنَّمَاOnlyالصَّدَقٰتُthe charitiesلِلْفُقَرَآءِ(are) for the poorوَ الْمَسٰكِیْنِand the needyوَ الْعٰمِلِیْنَand those who collectعَلَیْهَاthemوَ الْمُؤَلَّفَةِand the ones inclinedقُلُوْبُهُمْtheir heartsوَ فِیand inالرِّقَابِthe (freeing of) the necksوَ الْغٰرِمِیْنَand for those in debtوَ فِیْand inسَبِیْلِ(the) wayاللّٰهِ(of) Allahوَ ابْنِand the wayfarerالسَّبِیْلِ ؕand the wayfarerفَرِیْضَةًan obligationمِّنَfromاللّٰهِ ؕAllahوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِیْمٌ(is) All-Knowingحَكِیْمٌ All-Wise
(9:60) Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
وَ مِنْهُمُAnd among themالَّذِیْنَ(are) those whoیُؤْذُوْنَhurtالنَّبِیَّthe Prophetوَ یَقُوْلُوْنَand they sayهُوَHe isاُذُنٌ ؕ(all) earقُلْSayاُذُنُAn earخَیْرٍ(of) goodnessلَّكُمْfor youیُؤْمِنُhe believesبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ یُؤْمِنُand believesلِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَthe believersوَ رَحْمَةٌand (is) a mercyلِّلَّذِیْنَto those whoاٰمَنُوْاbelieveمِنْكُمْ ؕamong youوَ الَّذِیْنَAnd those whoیُؤْذُوْنَhurtرَسُوْلَ(the) Messengerاللّٰهِ(of) Allahلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentاَلِیْمٌ painful
(9:61) And among them are those who abuse the Prophet and say, "He is an ear." Say, "[It is] an ear of goodness for you that believes in Allah and believes the believers and [is] a mercy to those who believe among you." And those who abuse the Messenger of Allah - for them is a painful punishment.
9. At-Tawbah Page 197یَحْلِفُوْنَThey swearبِاللّٰهِby Allahلَكُمْto youلِیُرْضُوْكُمْ ۚto please youوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahوَ رَسُوْلُهٗۤand His Messengerاَحَقُّ(have) more rightاَنْthatیُّرْضُوْهُthey should please Himاِنْifكَانُوْاthey areمُؤْمِنِیْنَ believers
(9:62) They swear by Allah to you [Muslims] to satisfy you. But Allah and His Messenger are more worthy for them to satisfy, if they should be believers.
اَلَمْDo notیَعْلَمُوْۤاthey knowاَنَّهٗthat heمَنْwhoیُّحَادِدِopposesاللّٰهَAllahوَ رَسُوْلَهٗand His Messengerفَاَنَّ[then] thatلَهٗfor himنَارَ(is the) Fireجَهَنَّمَ(of) Hellخَالِدًا(will) abide foreverفِیْهَا ؕin itذٰلِكَThatالْخِزْیُ(is) the disgraceالْعَظِیْمُ the great
(9:63) Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger - that for him is the fire of Hell, wherein he will abide eternally? That is the great disgrace.
یَحْذَرُFearالْمُنٰفِقُوْنَthe hypocritesاَنْlestتُنَزَّلَbe revealedعَلَیْهِمْabout themسُوْرَةٌa Surahتُنَبِّئُهُمْinforming themبِمَاof whatفِیْ(is) inقُلُوْبِهِمْ ؕtheir heartsقُلِSayاسْتَهْزِءُوْا ۚMockاِنَّindeedاللّٰهَAllahمُخْرِجٌ(will) bring forthمَّاwhatتَحْذَرُوْنَ you fear
(9:64) They hypocrites are apprehensive lest a surah be revealed about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, "Mock [as you wish]; indeed, Allah will expose that which you fear."
وَ لَىِٕنْAnd ifسَاَلْتَهُمْyou ask themلَیَقُوْلُنَّsurely they will sayاِنَّمَاOnlyكُنَّاwe wereنَخُوْضُconversingوَ نَلْعَبُ ؕand playingقُلْSayاَبِاللّٰهِIs it Allahوَ اٰیٰتِهٖand His Versesوَ رَسُوْلِهٖand His Messengerكُنْتُمْ(that) you wereتَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ mocking
(9:65) And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"
لَا(Do) notتَعْتَذِرُوْاmake excuseقَدْverilyكَفَرْتُمْyou have disbelievedبَعْدَafterاِیْمَانِكُمْ ؕyour beliefاِنْIfنَّعْفُWe pardonعَنْ[on]طَآىِٕفَةٍa partyمِّنْكُمْof youنُعَذِّبْWe will punishطَآىِٕفَةًۢa partyبِاَنَّهُمْbecause theyكَانُوْاwereمُجْرِمِیْنَ۠criminals
(9:66) Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals.
اَلْمُنٰفِقُوْنَThe hypocrite menوَ الْمُنٰفِقٰتُand the hypocrite womenبَعْضُهُمْsome of themمِّنْۢ(are) ofبَعْضٍ ۘothersیَاْمُرُوْنَThey enjoinبِالْمُنْكَرِthe wrongوَ یَنْهَوْنَand forbidعَنِwhatالْمَعْرُوْفِ(is) the rightوَ یَقْبِضُوْنَand they closeاَیْدِیَهُمْ ؕtheir handsنَسُواThey forgetاللّٰهَAllahفَنَسِیَهُمْ ؕso He has forgotten themاِنَّIndeedالْمُنٰفِقِیْنَthe hypocritesهُمُthey (are)الْفٰسِقُوْنَ the defiantly disobedient
(9:67) The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.
وَعَدَAllah has promisedاللّٰهُAllah has promisedالْمُنٰفِقِیْنَthe hypocrite menوَ الْمُنٰفِقٰتِand the hypocrite womenوَ الْكُفَّارَand the disbelieversنَارَFireجَهَنَّمَ(of the) Hellخٰلِدِیْنَthey (will) abide foreverفِیْهَا ؕin itهِیَIt (is)حَسْبُهُمْ ۚsufficient for themوَ لَعَنَهُمُAnd Allah has cursed themاللّٰهُ ۚAnd Allah has cursed themوَ لَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمُّقِیْمٌۙenduring
(9:68) Allah has promised the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the disbelievers the fire of Hell, wherein they will abide eternally. It is sufficient for them. And Allah has cursed them, and for them is an enduring punishment.
9. At-Tawbah Page 198كَالَّذِیْنَLike thoseمِنْbefore youقَبْلِكُمْbefore youكَانُوْۤاthey wereاَشَدَّmightierمِنْكُمْthan youقُوَّةً(in) strengthوَّ اَكْثَرَand more abundantاَمْوَالًا(in) wealthوَّ اَوْلَادًا ؕand childrenفَاسْتَمْتَعُوْاSo they enjoyedبِخَلَاقِهِمْtheir portionفَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْand you have enjoyedبِخَلَاقِكُمْyour portionكَمَاlikeاسْتَمْتَعَenjoyedالَّذِیْنَthoseمِنْbefore youقَبْلِكُمْbefore youبِخَلَاقِهِمْtheir portionوَ خُضْتُمْand you indulge (in idle talk)كَالَّذِیْlike the one whoخَاضُوْا ؕindulges (in idle talk)اُولٰٓىِٕكَThoseحَبِطَتْworthlessاَعْمَالُهُمْ(are) their deedsفِیinالدُّنْیَاthe worldوَ الْاٰخِرَةِ ۚand (in) the Hereafterوَ اُولٰٓىِٕكَAnd thoseهُمُtheyالْخٰسِرُوْنَ (are) the losers
(9:69) [You disbelievers are] like those before you; they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion [of worldly enjoyment], and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have engaged [in vanities] like that in which they engaged. [It is] those whose deeds have become worthless in this world and in the Hereafter, and it is they who are the losers.
اَلَمْHas notیَاْتِهِمْcome to themنَبَاُ(the) newsالَّذِیْنَ(of) those whoمِنْ(were) before themقَبْلِهِمْ(were) before themقَوْمِ(the) peopleنُوْحٍ(of) Nuhوَّ عَادٍand Aadوَّ ثَمُوْدَ ۙ۬and Thamudوَ قَوْمِand (the) peopleاِبْرٰهِیْمَ(of) Ibrahimوَ اَصْحٰبِand (the) companionsمَدْیَنَ(of) Madyanوَ الْمُؤْتَفِكٰتِ ؕand the towns overturnedاَتَتْهُمْCame to themرُسُلُهُمْtheir Messengersبِالْبَیِّنٰتِ ۚwith clear proofsفَمَاAnd notكَانَwasاللّٰهُAllahلِیَظْلِمَهُمْto wrong themوَ لٰكِنْbutكَانُوْۤاthey were toاَنْفُسَهُمْthemselvesیَظْلِمُوْنَ doing wrong
(9:70) Has there not reached them the news of those before them - the people of Noah and [the tribes of] 'Aad and Thamud and the people of Abraham and the companions of Madyan and the towns overturned? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs. And Allah would never have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.
وَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَAnd the believing menوَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتُand the believing womenبَعْضُهُمْsome of themاَوْلِیَآءُ(are) alliesبَعْضٍ ۘ(of) othersیَاْمُرُوْنَThey enjoinبِالْمَعْرُوْفِthe rightوَ یَنْهَوْنَand forbidعَنِfromالْمُنْكَرِthe wrongوَ یُقِیْمُوْنَand they establishالصَّلٰوةَthe prayerوَ یُؤْتُوْنَand giveالزَّكٰوةَthe zakahوَ یُطِیْعُوْنَand they obeyاللّٰهَAllahوَ رَسُوْلَهٗ ؕand His MessengerاُولٰٓىِٕكَThoseسَیَرْحَمُهُمُwill have mercy on themاللّٰهُ ؕAllahاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahعَزِیْزٌ(is) All-Mightyحَكِیْمٌ All-Wise
(9:71) The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
وَعَدَ(Has been) promisedاللّٰهُ(by) Allahالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ(to) the believing menوَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتِand the believing womenجَنّٰتٍGardensتَجْرِیْflowمِنْfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath itالْاَنْهٰرُthe riversخٰلِدِیْنَ(will) abide foreverفِیْهَاin itوَ مَسٰكِنَand dwellingsطَیِّبَةًblessedفِیْinجَنّٰتِGardensعَدْنٍ ؕ(of) everlasting blissوَ رِضْوَانٌBut the pleasureمِّنَofاللّٰهِAllahاَكْبَرُ ؕ(is) greaterذٰلِكَThatهُوَitالْفَوْزُ(is) the successالْعَظِیْمُ۠great
(9:72) Allah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment.
9. At-Tawbah Page 199یٰۤاَیُّهَاO ProphetالنَّبِیُّO ProphetجَاهِدِStrive (against)الْكُفَّارَthe disbelieversوَ الْمُنٰفِقِیْنَand the hypocritesوَ اغْلُظْand be sternعَلَیْهِمْ ؕwith themوَ مَاْوٰىهُمْAnd their abodeجَهَنَّمُ ؕ(is) Hellوَ بِئْسَand wretchedالْمَصِیْرُ (is) the destination
(9:73) O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.
یَحْلِفُوْنَThey swearبِاللّٰهِby Allahمَا(that) they said nothingقَالُوْا ؕ(that) they said nothingوَ لَقَدْwhile certainlyقَالُوْاthey saidكَلِمَةَ(the) wordالْكُفْرِ(of) the disbeliefوَ كَفَرُوْاand disbelievedبَعْدَafterاِسْلَامِهِمْtheir (pretense of) Islamوَ هَمُّوْاand plannedبِمَا[of] whatلَمْnotیَنَالُوْا ۚthey could attainوَ مَاAnd notنَقَمُوْۤاthey were resentfulاِلَّاۤexceptاَنْthatاَغْنٰىهُمُAllah had enriched themاللّٰهُAllah had enriched themوَ رَسُوْلُهٗand His Messengerمِنْofفَضْلِهٖ ۚHis BountyفَاِنْSo ifیَّتُوْبُوْاthey repentیَكُit isخَیْرًاbetterلَّهُمْ ۚfor themوَ اِنْand ifیَّتَوَلَّوْاthey turn awayیُعَذِّبْهُمُAllah will punish themاللّٰهُAllah will punish themعَذَابًا(with) a punishmentاَلِیْمًا ۙpainfulفِیinالدُّنْیَاthe worldوَ الْاٰخِرَةِ ۚand (in) the Hereafterوَ مَاAnd notلَهُمْfor themفِیinالْاَرْضِthe earthمِنْ[of]وَّلِیٍّany protectorوَّ لَاand notنَصِیْرٍ any helper
(9:74) They swear by Allah that they did not say [anything against the Prophet] while they had said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their [pretense of] Islam and planned that which they were not to attain. And they were not resentful except [for the fact] that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them; but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And there will not be for them on earth any protector or helper.
وَ مِنْهُمْAnd among themمَّنْ(is he) whoعٰهَدَmade a covenantاللّٰهَ(with) AllahلَىِٕنْIfاٰتٰىنَاHe gives usمِنْofفَضْلِهٖHis bountyلَنَصَّدَّقَنَّsurely we will give charityوَ لَنَكُوْنَنَّand surely we will beمِنَamongالصّٰلِحِیْنَ the righteous
(9:75) And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous."
فَلَمَّاۤBut whenاٰتٰىهُمْHe gave themمِّنْofفَضْلِهٖHis Bountyبَخِلُوْاthey became stingyبِهٖwith itوَ تَوَلَّوْاand turned awayوَّ هُمْwhile theyمُّعْرِضُوْنَ (were) averse
(9:76) But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused.
فَاَعْقَبَهُمْSo He penalized themنِفَاقًا(with) hypocrisyفِیْinقُلُوْبِهِمْtheir heartsاِلٰیuntilیَوْمِthe dayیَلْقَوْنَهٗwhen they will meet Himبِمَاۤbecauseاَخْلَفُواthey brokeاللّٰهَ(the covenant) with Allahمَاwhatوَعَدُوْهُthey had promised Himوَ بِمَاand becauseكَانُوْاthey used toیَكْذِبُوْنَ lie
(9:77) So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie.
اَلَمْDo notیَعْلَمُوْۤاthey knowاَنَّthatاللّٰهَAllahیَعْلَمُknowsسِرَّهُمْtheir secretوَ نَجْوٰىهُمْand their secret conversationوَ اَنَّand thatاللّٰهَAllahعَلَّامُ(is) All-Knowerالْغُیُوْبِۚ(of) the unseen
(9:78) Did they not know that Allah knows their secrets and their private conversations and that Allah is the Knower of the unseen?
اَلَّذِیْنَThose whoیَلْمِزُوْنَcriticizeالْمُطَّوِّعِیْنَthe ones who give willinglyمِنَofالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَthe believersفِیconcerningالصَّدَقٰتِthe charitiesوَ الَّذِیْنَand those whoلَاnotیَجِدُوْنَfindاِلَّاexceptجُهْدَهُمْtheir effortفَیَسْخَرُوْنَso they ridiculeمِنْهُمْ ؕthemسَخِرَAllah will ridiculeاللّٰهُAllah will ridiculeمِنْهُمْ ؗthemوَ لَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentاَلِیْمٌ painful
(9:79) Those who criticize the contributors among the believers concerning [their] charities and [criticize] the ones who find nothing [to spend] except their effort, so they ridicule them - Allah will ridicule them, and they will have a painful punishment.
9. At-Tawbah Page 200اِسْتَغْفِرْAsk forgivenessلَهُمْfor themاَوْorلَا(do) notتَسْتَغْفِرْask forgivenessلَهُمْ ؕfor themاِنْIfتَسْتَغْفِرْyou ask forgivenessلَهُمْfor themسَبْعِیْنَseventyمَرَّةًtimesفَلَنْneverیَّغْفِرَwill Allah forgiveاللّٰهُwill Allah forgiveلَهُمْ ؕ[for] themذٰلِكَThatبِاَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyكَفَرُوْاdisbelievedبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ رَسُوْلِهٖ ؕand His Messengerوَ اللّٰهُand Allahلَا(does) notیَهْدِیguideالْقَوْمَthe peopleالْفٰسِقِیْنَ۠the defiantly disobedient
(9:80) Ask forgiveness for them, [O Muhammad], or do not ask forgiveness for them. If you should ask forgiveness for them seventy times - never will Allah forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.
فَرِحَRejoiceالْمُخَلَّفُوْنَthose who remained behindبِمَقْعَدِهِمْin their stayingخِلٰفَbehindرَسُوْلِ(the) Messengerاللّٰهِ(of) Allahوَ كَرِهُوْۤاand they dislikedاَنْtoیُّجَاهِدُوْاstriveبِاَمْوَالِهِمْwith their wealthوَ اَنْفُسِهِمْand their livesفِیْinسَبِیْلِ(the) wayاللّٰهِ(of) Allahوَ قَالُوْاand they saidلَا(Do) notتَنْفِرُوْاgo forthفِیinالْحَرِّ ؕthe heatقُلْSayنَارُ(The) Fireجَهَنَّمَ(of) Hellاَشَدُّ(is) more intenseحَرًّا ؕ(in) heatلَوْIf (only)كَانُوْاthey couldیَفْقَهُوْنَ understand
(9:81) Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah and said, "Do not go forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat" - if they would but understand.
فَلْیَضْحَكُوْاSo let them laughقَلِیْلًاa littleوَّ لْیَبْكُوْاand let them weepكَثِیْرًا ۚmuchجَزَآءًۢ(as) a recompenseبِمَاfor whatكَانُوْاthey used toیَكْسِبُوْنَ earn
(9:82) So let them laugh a little and [then] weep much as recompense for what they used to earn.
فَاِنْThen ifرَّجَعَكَAllah returns youاللّٰهُAllah returns youاِلٰیtoطَآىِٕفَةٍa groupمِّنْهُمْof themفَاسْتَاْذَنُوْكَand they ask you permissionلِلْخُرُوْجِto go outفَقُلْthen sayلَّنْNeverتَخْرُجُوْاwill you come outمَعِیَwith meاَبَدًاeverوَّ لَنْand neverتُقَاتِلُوْاwill you fightمَعِیَwith meعَدُوًّا ؕany enemyاِنَّكُمْIndeed, youرَضِیْتُمْwere satisfiedبِالْقُعُوْدِwith sittingاَوَّلَ(the) firstمَرَّةٍtimeفَاقْعُدُوْاso sitمَعَwithالْخٰلِفِیْنَ those who stay behind
(9:83) If Allah should return you to a faction of them [after the expedition] and then they ask your permission to go out [to battle], say, "You will not go out with me, ever, and you will never fight with me an enemy. Indeed, you were satisfied with sitting [at home] the first time, so sit [now] with those who stay behind."
وَ لَاAnd notتُصَلِّyou prayعَلٰۤیforاَحَدٍanyمِّنْهُمْof themمَّاتَwho diesاَبَدًاeverوَّ لَاand notتَقُمْyou standعَلٰیbyقَبْرِهٖ ؕhis graveاِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَفَرُوْاdisbelievedبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ رَسُوْلِهٖand His Messengerوَ مَاتُوْاand diedوَ هُمْwhile they wereفٰسِقُوْنَ defiantly disobedient
(9:84) And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
وَ لَاAnd (let) notتُعْجِبْكَimpress youاَمْوَالُهُمْtheir wealthوَ اَوْلَادُهُمْ ؕand their childrenاِنَّمَاOnlyیُرِیْدُAllah intendsاللّٰهُAllah intendsاَنْtoیُّعَذِّبَهُمْpunish themبِهَاwith itفِیinالدُّنْیَاthe worldوَ تَزْهَقَand will departاَنْفُسُهُمْtheir soulsوَ هُمْwhile theyكٰفِرُوْنَ (are) disbelievers
(9:85) And let not their wealth and their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.
وَ اِذَاۤAnd whenاُنْزِلَتْwas revealedسُوْرَةٌa Surahاَنْthatاٰمِنُوْاbelieveبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ جَاهِدُوْاand striveمَعَwithرَسُوْلِهِHis Messengerاسْتَاْذَنَكَask your permissionاُولُوا(the) menالطَّوْلِ(of) wealthمِنْهُمْamong themوَ قَالُوْاand saidذَرْنَاLeave usنَكُنْ(to) beمَّعَwithالْقٰعِدِیْنَ those who sit
(9:86) And when a surah was revealed [enjoining them] to believe in Allah and to fight with His Messenger, those of wealth among them asked your permission [to stay back] and said, "Leave us to be with them who sit [at home]."
9. At-Tawbah Page 201رَضُوْاThey (were) satisfiedبِاَنْtoیَّكُوْنُوْاbeمَعَwithالْخَوَالِفِthose who stay behindوَ طُبِعَand were sealedعَلٰی[on]قُلُوْبِهِمْtheir heartsفَهُمْso theyلَا(do) notیَفْقَهُوْنَ understand
(9:87) They were satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and their hearts were sealed over, so they do not understand.
لٰكِنِButالرَّسُوْلُthe Messengerوَ الَّذِیْنَand those whoاٰمَنُوْاbelievedمَعَهٗwith himجٰهَدُوْاstroveبِاَمْوَالِهِمْwith their wealthوَ اَنْفُسِهِمْ ؕand their livesوَ اُولٰٓىِٕكَAnd thoseلَهُمُfor themالْخَیْرٰتُ ؗ(are) the good thingsوَ اُولٰٓىِٕكَand thoseهُمُtheyالْمُفْلِحُوْنَ (are) the successful ones
(9:88) But the Messenger and those who believed with him fought with their wealth and their lives. Those will have [all that is] good, and it is those who are the successful.
اَعَدَّAllah has preparedاللّٰهُAllah has preparedلَهُمْfor themجَنّٰتٍGardensتَجْرِیْflowsمِنْfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath itالْاَنْهٰرُthe riversخٰلِدِیْنَ(will) abide foreverفِیْهَا ؕin itذٰلِكَThatالْفَوْزُ(is) the successالْعَظِیْمُ۠the great
(9:89) Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally. That is the great attainment.
وَ جَآءَAnd cameالْمُعَذِّرُوْنَthe ones who make excusesمِنَofالْاَعْرَابِthe bedouinsلِیُؤْذَنَthat permission be grantedلَهُمْto themوَ قَعَدَand satالَّذِیْنَthose whoكَذَبُواliedاللّٰهَ(to) Allahوَ رَسُوْلَهٗ ؕand His MessengerسَیُصِیْبُWill strikeالَّذِیْنَthose whoكَفَرُوْاdisbelievedمِنْهُمْamong themعَذَابٌa punishmentاَلِیْمٌ painful
(9:90) And those with excuses among the bedouins came to be permitted [to remain], and they who had lied to Allah and His Messenger sat [at home]. There will strike those who disbelieved among them a painful punishment.
لَیْسَNotعَلَیonالضُّعَفَآءِthe weakوَ لَاand notعَلَیonالْمَرْضٰیthe sickوَ لَاand notعَلَیonالَّذِیْنَthose whoلَاnotیَجِدُوْنَthey findمَاwhatیُنْفِقُوْنَthey (can) spendحَرَجٌany blameاِذَاifنَصَحُوْاthey (are) sincereلِلّٰهِto Allahوَ رَسُوْلِهٖ ؕand His MessengerمَاNotعَلَی(is) onالْمُحْسِنِیْنَthe good-doersمِنْ[of]سَبِیْلٍ ؕany way (for blame)وَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahغَفُوْرٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِیْمٌۙMost Merciful
(9:91) There is not upon the weak or upon the ill or upon those who do not find anything to spend any discomfort when they are sincere to Allah and His Messenger. There is not upon the doers of good any cause [for blame]. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
وَّ لَاAnd notعَلَیonالَّذِیْنَthose whoاِذَاwhenمَاۤwhenاَتَوْكَthey came to youلِتَحْمِلَهُمْthat you provide them with mountsقُلْتَyou saidلَاۤNotاَجِدُI findمَاۤwhatاَحْمِلُكُمْto mount youعَلَیْهِ ۪on [it]تَوَلَّوْاThey turned backوَّ اَعْیُنُهُمْwith their eyesتَفِیْضُflowingمِنَ[of]الدَّمْعِ(with) the tearsحَزَنًا(of) sorrowاَلَّاthat notیَجِدُوْاthey findمَاwhatیُنْفِقُوْنَؕthey (could) spend
(9:92) Nor [is there blame] upon those who, when they came to you that you might give them mounts, you said, "I can find nothing for you to ride upon." They turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find something to spend [for the cause of Allah].
اِنَّمَاOnlyالسَّبِیْلُthe way (blame)عَلَی(is) onالَّذِیْنَthose whoیَسْتَاْذِنُوْنَكَask your permissionوَ هُمْwhile theyاَغْنِیَآءُ ۚ(are) richرَضُوْاThey (are) satisfiedبِاَنْtoیَّكُوْنُوْاbeمَعَwithالْخَوَالِفِ ۙthose who stay behindوَ طَبَعَand Allah sealedاللّٰهُand Allah sealedعَلٰی[on]قُلُوْبِهِمْtheir heartsفَهُمْso theyلَا(do) notیَعْلَمُوْنَ know
(9:93) The cause [for blame] is only upon those who ask permission of you while they are rich. They are satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and Allah has sealed over their hearts, so they do not know.
9. At-Tawbah Page 202یَعْتَذِرُوْنَThey will make excusesاِلَیْكُمْto youاِذَاwhenرَجَعْتُمْyou (have) returnedاِلَیْهِمْ ؕto themقُلْSayلَّا(Do) notتَعْتَذِرُوْاmake excuseلَنْneverنُّؤْمِنَwe will believeلَكُمْyouقَدْVerilyنَبَّاَنَاAllah (has) informed usاللّٰهُAllah (has) informed usمِنْofاَخْبَارِكُمْ ؕyour newsوَ سَیَرَیand Allah will seeاللّٰهُand Allah will seeعَمَلَكُمْyour deedsوَ رَسُوْلُهٗand His MessengerثُمَّThenتُرَدُّوْنَyou will be brought backاِلٰیtoعٰلِمِ(the) Knowerالْغَیْبِ(of) the unseenوَ الشَّهَادَةِand the seenفَیُنَبِّئُكُمْthen He will inform youبِمَاof whatكُنْتُمْyou used (to)تَعْمَلُوْنَ do
(9:94) They will make excuses to you when you have returned to them. Say, "Make no excuse - never will we believe you. Allah has already informed us of your news. And Allah will observe your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger; then you will be taken back to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do."
سَیَحْلِفُوْنَThey will swearبِاللّٰهِby Allahلَكُمْto youاِذَاwhenانْقَلَبْتُمْyou returnedاِلَیْهِمْto themلِتُعْرِضُوْاthat you may turn awayعَنْهُمْ ؕfrom themفَاَعْرِضُوْاSo turn awayعَنْهُمْ ؕfrom themاِنَّهُمْindeed theyرِجْسٌ ؗ(are) impureوَّ مَاْوٰىهُمْand their abodeجَهَنَّمُ ۚ(is) Hellجَزَآءًۢa recompenseبِمَاfor whatكَانُوْاthey used (to)یَكْسِبُوْنَ earn
(9:95) They will swear by Allah to you when you return to them that you would leave them alone. So leave them alone; indeed they are evil; and their refuge is Hell as recompense for what they had been earning.
یَحْلِفُوْنَThey swearلَكُمْto youلِتَرْضَوْاthat you may be pleasedعَنْهُمْ ۚwith themفَاِنْBut ifتَرْضَوْاyou are pleasedعَنْهُمْwith themفَاِنَّthen indeedاللّٰهَAllahلَا(is) not pleasedیَرْضٰی(is) not pleasedعَنِwithالْقَوْمِthe peopleالْفٰسِقِیْنَ (who are) defiantly disobedient
(9:96) They swear to you so that you might be satisfied with them. But if you should be satisfied with them - indeed, Allah is not satisfied with a defiantly disobedient people.
اَلْاَعْرَابُThe bedouinsاَشَدُّ(are) strongerكُفْرًا(in) disbeliefوَّ نِفَاقًاand hypocrisyوَّ اَجْدَرُand more likelyاَلَّاthat notیَعْلَمُوْاthey knowحُدُوْدَ(the) limitsمَاۤ(of) whatاَنْزَلَAllah (has) revealedاللّٰهُAllah (has) revealedعَلٰیtoرَسُوْلِهٖ ؕHis Messengerوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِیْمٌ(is) All-Knowerحَكِیْمٌ All-Wise
(9:97) The bedouins are stronger in disbelief and hypocrisy and more likely not to know the limits of what [laws] Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
وَ مِنَAnd amongالْاَعْرَابِthe bedouinsمَنْ(is he) whoیَّتَّخِذُtakesمَاwhatیُنْفِقُhe spendsمَغْرَمًا(as) a lossوَّ یَتَرَبَّصُand he awaitsبِكُمُfor youالدَّوَآىِٕرَ ؕthe turns (of misfortune)عَلَیْهِمْUpon themدَآىِٕرَةُ(will be) the turnالسَّوْءِ ؕ(of) the evilوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahسَمِیْعٌ(is) All-Hearerعَلِیْمٌ All-Knower
(9:98) And among the bedouins are some who consider what they spend as a loss and await for you turns of misfortune. Upon them will be a misfortune of evil. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
وَ مِنَBut amongالْاَعْرَابِthe bedouinsمَنْ(is he) whoیُّؤْمِنُbelievesبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ الْیَوْمِand the Dayالْاٰخِرِthe Lastوَ یَتَّخِذُand takesمَاwhatیُنْفِقُhe spendsقُرُبٰتٍ(as) means of nearnessعِنْدَwithاللّٰهِAllahوَ صَلَوٰتِand blessingsالرَّسُوْلِ ؕ(of) the MessengerاَلَاۤBeholdاِنَّهَاIndeed, itقُرْبَةٌ(is) a means of nearnessلَّهُمْ ؕfor themسَیُدْخِلُهُمُAllah will admit themاللّٰهُAllah will admit themفِیْtoرَحْمَتِهٖ ؕHis MercyاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahغَفُوْرٌ(is) Oft-Forgivingرَّحِیْمٌ۠Most Merciful
(9:99) But among the bedouins are some who believe in Allah and the Last Day and consider what they spend as means of nearness to Allah and of [obtaining] invocations of the Messenger. Unquestionably, it is a means of nearness for them. Allah will admit them to His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
9. At-Tawbah Page 203وَ السّٰبِقُوْنَAnd the forerunnersالْاَوَّلُوْنَthe firstمِنَamongالْمُهٰجِرِیْنَthe emigrantsوَ الْاَنْصَارِand the helpersوَ الَّذِیْنَand those whoاتَّبَعُوْهُمْfollowed themبِاِحْسَانٍ ۙin righteousnessرَّضِیَAllah is pleasedاللّٰهُAllah is pleasedعَنْهُمْwith themوَ رَضُوْاand they are pleasedعَنْهُwith Himوَ اَعَدَّAnd He has preparedلَهُمْfor themجَنّٰتٍGardensتَجْرِیْflowsتَحْتَهَاunderneath itالْاَنْهٰرُthe riversخٰلِدِیْنَwill abideفِیْهَاۤin itاَبَدًا ؕforeverذٰلِكَThatالْفَوْزُ(is) the successالْعَظِیْمُ the great
(9:100) And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.
وَ مِمَّنْAnd among thoseحَوْلَكُمْaround youمِّنَofالْاَعْرَابِthe bedouinsمُنٰفِقُوْنَ ۛؕ(are) hypocritesوَ مِنْand (also) fromاَهْلِpeopleالْمَدِیْنَةِ ؔۛ۫(of) the MadinahمَرَدُوْاThey persistعَلَیinالنِّفَاقِ ۫the hypocrisyلَاnotتَعْلَمُهُمْ ؕyou know themنَحْنُWeنَعْلَمُهُمْ ؕ[We] know themسَنُعَذِّبُهُمْWe will punish themمَّرَّتَیْنِtwiceثُمَّthenیُرَدُّوْنَthey will be returnedاِلٰیtoعَذَابٍa punishmentعَظِیْمٍۚgreat
(9:101) And among those around you of the bedouins are hypocrites, and [also] from the people of Madinah. They have become accustomed to hypocrisy. You, [O Muhammad], do not know them, [but] We know them. We will punish them twice [in this world]; then they will be returned to a great punishment.
وَ اٰخَرُوْنَAnd othersاعْتَرَفُوْا(who have) acknowledgedبِذُنُوْبِهِمْtheir sinsخَلَطُوْاThey had mixedعَمَلًاa deedصَالِحًاrighteousوَّ اٰخَرَ(with) otherسَیِّئًا ؕ(that was) evilعَسَیPerhapsاللّٰهُAllahاَنْ[that]یَّتُوْبَwill turn (in mercy)عَلَیْهِمْ ؕto themاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahغَفُوْرٌ(is) Oft-Forgivingرَّحِیْمٌ Most Merciful
(9:102) And [there are] others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
خُذْTakeمِنْfromاَمْوَالِهِمْtheir wealthصَدَقَةًa charityتُطَهِّرُهُمْpurifying themوَ تُزَكِّیْهِمْand cause them increaseبِهَاby itوَصَلِّand blessعَلَیْهِمْ ؕ[upon] themاِنَّIndeedصَلٰوتَكَyour blessingsسَكَنٌ(are a) reassuranceلَّهُمْ ؕfor themوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahسَمِیْعٌ(is) All-Hearerعَلِیْمٌ All-Knower
(9:103) Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah 's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
اَلَمْDo notیَعْلَمُوْۤاthey knowاَنَّthatاللّٰهَAllahهُوَ(is) Heیَقْبَلُ(Who) acceptsالتَّوْبَةَthe repentanceعَنْfromعِبَادِهٖHis slavesوَ یَاْخُذُand takesالصَّدَقٰتِthe charitiesوَ اَنَّand thatاللّٰهَAllahهُوَHeالتَّوَّابُ(is) the Acceptor of repentanceالرَّحِیْمُ the Most Merciful
(9:104) Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful?
وَ قُلِAnd sayاعْمَلُوْاDoفَسَیَرَیthen Allah will seeاللّٰهُthen Allah will seeعَمَلَكُمْyour deedوَ رَسُوْلُهٗand His Messengerوَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ ؕand the believersوَ سَتُرَدُّوْنَAnd you will be brought backاِلٰیtoعٰلِمِ(the) Knowerالْغَیْبِ(of) the unseenوَ الشَّهَادَةِand the seenفَیُنَبِّئُكُمْthen He will inform youبِمَاof whatكُنْتُمْyou used (to)تَعْمَلُوْنَۚdo
(9:105) And say, "Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do."
وَ اٰخَرُوْنَAnd othersمُرْجَوْنَdeferredلِاَمْرِfor the Command of Allahاللّٰهِfor the Command of AllahاِمَّاwhetherیُعَذِّبُهُمْHe will punish themوَ اِمَّاorیَتُوْبُHe will turn (in mercy)عَلَیْهِمْ ؕto themوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِیْمٌ(is) All-Knowerحَكِیْمٌ All-Wise
(9:106) And [there are] others deferred until the command of Allah - whether He will punish them or whether He will forgive them. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
9. At-Tawbah Page 204وَ الَّذِیْنَAnd those whoاتَّخَذُوْاtakeمَسْجِدًاa masjidضِرَارًا(for causing) harmوَّ كُفْرًاand (for) disbeliefوَّ تَفْرِیْقًۢاand (for) divisionبَیْنَamongالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَthe believersوَ اِرْصَادًاand (as) a stationلِّمَنْfor whoeverحَارَبَwarredاللّٰهَ(against) Allahوَ رَسُوْلَهٗand His Messengerمِنْbeforeقَبْلُ ؕbeforeوَ لَیَحْلِفُنَّAnd surely they will swearاِنْNotاَرَدْنَاۤwe wishاِلَّاexceptالْحُسْنٰی ؕthe goodوَ اللّٰهُBut Allahیَشْهَدُbears witnessاِنَّهُمْindeed, theyلَكٰذِبُوْنَ (are) surely liars
(9:107) And [there are] those [hypocrites] who took for themselves a mosque for causing harm and disbelief and division among the believers and as a station for whoever had warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they will surely swear, "We intended only the best." And Allah testifies that indeed they are liars.
لَا(Do) notتَقُمْstandفِیْهِin itاَبَدًا ؕeverلَمَسْجِدٌA masjidاُسِّسَfoundedعَلَیonالتَّقْوٰیthe righteousnessمِنْfromاَوَّلِ(the) firstیَوْمٍdayاَحَقُّ(is) more worthyاَنْthatتَقُوْمَyou standفِیْهِ ؕin itفِیْهِWithin itرِجَالٌ(are) menیُّحِبُّوْنَwho loveاَنْtoیَّتَطَهَّرُوْا ؕpurify themselvesوَ اللّٰهُand Allahیُحِبُّlovesالْمُطَّهِّرِیْنَ the ones who purify themselves
(9:108) Do not stand [for prayer] within it - ever. A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in. Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves.
اَفَمَنْThen is (one) whoاَسَّسَfoundedبُنْیَانَهٗhis buildingعَلٰیonتَقْوٰیrighteousnessمِنَfromاللّٰهِAllahوَ رِضْوَانٍand (His) pleasureخَیْرٌbetterاَمْorمَّنْ(one) whoاَسَّسَfoundedبُنْیَانَهٗhis buildingعَلٰیonشَفَاedgeجُرُفٍ(of) a cliffهَارٍ(about to) collapseفَانْهَارَso it collapsedبِهٖwith himفِیْinنَارِ(the) Fireجَهَنَّمَ ؕ(of) Hellوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notیَهْدِیguideالْقَوْمَthe wrongdoing peopleالظّٰلِمِیْنَ the wrongdoing people
(9:109) Then is one who laid the foundation of his building on righteousness [with fear] from Allah and [seeking] His approval better or one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Hell? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
لَاNotیَزَالُ(will) ceaseبُنْیَانُهُمُtheir buildingالَّذِیْwhichبَنَوْاthey builtرِیْبَةًa (cause of) doubtفِیْinقُلُوْبِهِمْtheir heartsاِلَّاۤexceptاَنْthatتَقَطَّعَ(are) cut into piecesقُلُوْبُهُمْ ؕtheir heartsوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahعَلِیْمٌ(is) All-Knowerحَكِیْمٌ۠All-Wise
(9:110) Their building which they built will not cease to be a [cause of] skepticism in their hearts until their hearts are stopped. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
اِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahاشْتَرٰی(has) purchasedمِنَfromالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَthe believersاَنْفُسَهُمْtheir livesوَ اَمْوَالَهُمْand their wealthبِاَنَّbecauseلَهُمُfor themالْجَنَّةَ ؕ(is) ParadiseیُقَاتِلُوْنَThey fightفِیْinسَبِیْلِ(the) wayاللّٰهِ(of) Allahفَیَقْتُلُوْنَthey slayوَ یُقْتَلُوْنَ ۫and they are slainوَعْدًاA promiseعَلَیْهِupon Himحَقًّاtrueفِیinالتَّوْرٰىةِthe Tauratوَ الْاِنْجِیْلِand the Injeelوَ الْقُرْاٰنِ ؕand the Quranوَ مَنْAnd whoاَوْفٰی(is) more faithfulبِعَهْدِهٖto his promiseمِنَthanاللّٰهِAllahفَاسْتَبْشِرُوْاSo rejoiceبِبَیْعِكُمُin your transactionالَّذِیْwhichبَایَعْتُمْyou have contractedبِهٖ ؕ[with it]وَ ذٰلِكَAnd thatهُوَitالْفَوْزُ(is) the successالْعَظِیْمُ the great
(9:111) Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.
9. At-Tawbah Page 205اَلتَّآىِٕبُوْنَThose who turn in repentanceالْعٰبِدُوْنَthose who worshipالْحٰمِدُوْنَthose who praiseالسَّآىِٕحُوْنَthose who go outالرّٰكِعُوْنَthose who bow downالسّٰجِدُوْنَthose who prostrateالْاٰمِرُوْنَthose who enjoinبِالْمَعْرُوْفِthe rightوَ النَّاهُوْنَand those who forbidعَنِ[on]الْمُنْكَرِthe wrongوَ الْحٰفِظُوْنَand those who observeلِحُدُوْدِ(the) limitsاللّٰهِ ؕ(of) Allahوَ بَشِّرِAnd give glad tidingsالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ (to) the believers
(9:112) [Such believers are] the repentant, the worshippers, the praisers [of Allah], the travelers [for His cause], those who bow and prostrate [in prayer], those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and those who observe the limits [set by] Allah. And give good tidings to the believers.
مَاNotكَانَ(it) isلِلنَّبِیِّfor the Prophetوَ الَّذِیْنَand those whoاٰمَنُوْۤاbelieveاَنْthatیَّسْتَغْفِرُوْاthey ask forgivenessلِلْمُشْرِكِیْنَfor the polytheistsوَ لَوْeven thoughكَانُوْۤاthey beاُولِیْnear of kinقُرْبٰیnear of kinمِنْۢafterبَعْدِafterمَا[what]تَبَیَّنَhas become clearلَهُمْto themاَنَّهُمْthat theyاَصْحٰبُ(are the) companionsالْجَحِیْمِ (of) the Hellfire
(9:113) It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
وَ مَاAnd notكَانَwasاسْتِغْفَارُ(the) asking of forgivenessاِبْرٰهِیْمَ(by) Ibrahimلِاَبِیْهِfor his fatherاِلَّاexceptعَنْbecauseمَّوْعِدَةٍ(of) a promiseوَّعَدَهَاۤhe had promised itاِیَّاهُ ۚ(to) himفَلَمَّاBut whenتَبَیَّنَit became clearلَهٗۤto himاَنَّهٗthat heعَدُوٌّ(was) an enemyلِّلّٰهِto Allahتَبَرَّاَhe disassociatedمِنْهُ ؕfrom himاِنَّIndeedاِبْرٰهِیْمَIbrahimلَاَوَّاهٌ(was) compassionateحَلِیْمٌ forbearing
(9:114) And the request of forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became apparent to Abraham that his father was an enemy to Allah, he disassociated himself from him. Indeed was Abraham compassionate and patient.
وَ مَاAnd notكَانَisاللّٰهُ(for) Allahلِیُضِلَّthat He lets go astrayقَوْمًۢاa peopleبَعْدَafterاِذْ[when]هَدٰىهُمْHe has guided themحَتّٰیuntilیُبَیِّنَHe makes clearلَهُمْto themمَّاwhatیَتَّقُوْنَ ؕthey should fearاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahبِكُلِّ(of) everyشَیْءٍthingعَلِیْمٌ (is) All-Knower
(9:115) And Allah would not let a people stray after He has guided them until He makes clear to them what they should avoid. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of all things.
اِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahلَهٗto Him (belongs)مُلْكُthe dominionالسَّمٰوٰتِ(of) the heavensوَ الْاَرْضِ ؕand the earthیُحْیٖHe gives lifeوَ یُمِیْتُ ؕand He causes deathوَ مَاAnd notلَكُمْfor youمِّنْbesides Allahدُوْنِbesides Allahاللّٰهِbesides Allahمِنْanyوَّلِیٍّprotectorوَّ لَاand notنَصِیْرٍ any helper
(9:116) Indeed, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death. And you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper.
لَقَدْVerilyتَّابَAllah turned (in mercy)اللّٰهُAllah turned (in mercy)عَلَیtoالنَّبِیِّthe Prophetوَ الْمُهٰجِرِیْنَand the emigrantsوَ الْاَنْصَارِand the helpersالَّذِیْنَ[those] whoاتَّبَعُوْهُfollowed himفِیْinسَاعَةِ(the) hourالْعُسْرَةِ(of) difficultyمِنْۢafterبَعْدِafterمَا[what]كَادَhad nearlyیَزِیْغُdeviatedقُلُوْبُ(the) heartsفَرِیْقٍ(of) a partyمِّنْهُمْof themثُمَّthenتَابَHe turned (in mercy)عَلَیْهِمْ ؕto themاِنَّهٗIndeed, Heبِهِمْto themرَءُوْفٌ(is) Most KindرَّحِیْمٌۙMost Merciful
(9:117) Allah has already forgiven the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful.
